Funeral services for John Taylor McWilliams, Sr. age 98 of Waynesboro, will be One p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Waynesboro with Laverne Griggs officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County in charge.
Mr. McWilliams, a lifelong resident of Wayne County, died Tuesday evening, September 25, 2007 at Wayne Care Nursing Home in Waynesboro. Mr. McWilliams was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Benjamin McWilliams and Hannah Horton McWilliams; his wife Sallie Boyd Davis McWilliams; son, John Taylor McWilliams, Jr.; brothers, Paul McWilliams and Fain McWilliams; and sisters, Loretta Howell, Alma Hartman, and Effie Knutsen. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Genesco Manufacturing in Waynesboro, and a member of the Baptist church.
He is survived by his children, Era Rebecca McWilliams Creecy of LaVergne, TN, James Berry McWilliams of Cookeville, TN, Effie Belle McWilliams Brown Sledge of Jackson, TN, Jasper Allen McWilliams of Cookeville, TN, Charles Dexter McWilliams of Lavernia, TX, Barbara Gail McWilliams Martin of Sandy Springs, OK, and David Dwight McWilliams of Nolensville, TN; 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
