John H. Long

John H. Longwas born in Counce, Tennessee on December 23, 1919 the son of the late Cleve and Naomi Counce Long.On December 23, 1939 he was united in marriage to Arzie Welch, who preceded him in death on October 3, 1990.Mr. Long had worked for TVA. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Counce First Baptist Church. He was Veteran of World War II serving in Okinawa, Japan and receiving numerous medals including the Purple Heart.Mr. Long departed this life on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the age of 90 years, 3 months, 23 days.Mr. Long is survived by 2 sons, James Long of Memphis, Tennessee and Bobby Long of Counce, Tennessee; 5 daughters, Joyce Godwin of Counce, Tennessee, Fran Wollner of Silver Spring, Maryland, Wil Webb of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Jan Perkins of Memphis, Tennessee and Betty Dickerson of Covington, Tennessee; a sister, Nell Landrum of Iuka, Mississippi; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, JC Long; 3 sisters, Ruth Ramsey, Ethel Grisham, and Tillie Stevenson.
