John D. Millard Franks
was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on March 26, 1921, the son of John and Ader Burks Franks. He was united in marriage to Velma Middleton, who preceded him in death.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army and received a Purple Heart. Other than that, he spent most of his life in Hardin County, employed as a factory worker. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Franks departed this life on Wednesday, March 14, 2006 while a patient at Hardin Medical Center at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 18 days. He is survived by:
5 daughters, Laura Hartley and her husband, Johnny,
Velma Franks,
Mildred Ann Deter and her husband, Wayne,
Mary Elizabeth Dokey and her husband, Gary, and
Linda Faye Killen, all of Savannah, Tennessee;
1 son, Jimmy Millard Franks and his wife, Donna, also of Savannah;
12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, and
2 brothers, Babe Franks and R. C. Franks, also of Savannah.
Other than his wife, Velma, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Corey Grice and Dennis Wayne Riggs, and two brothers, Buck Franks and Hardin Franks.
