John Edward "Pete" Smith passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Bolivar General Hospital.
He was born in Bolivar, the son of the late John Ellis Smith and Mable Dacus Smith Hopper, who survives and lived all of his life in Hardeman County. He was also preceded in death by a twin brother Dwon Ellis Smith.
Mr. Smith was a truck driver who had worked for the Hardeman County Road Department, Shaw's Concrete, Russell DeBerry and, also was an OTR driver. At the time of his passing, he was owner/operator of JES Farms Trucking. His family says if it had a steering wheel, he would drive it.
In his spare time, Pete enjoyed boating, fishing, building motors and working on cars. He also spent many hours building antique model cars building a large collection over the years.
He leaves four children, John Shaw of Jackson, Jessica Shaw of Jackson, Casey Herman of Selmer and Carrie Smith of Selmer; his mother, Mable Hopper of Bolivar; his sister, Priscilla Stanford and her fiancé, O'Neal Escue, of Henderson; and six grandchildren, Dwon Woods, Arianna Stricklin, Ahnalee Shaw, Addison Smith, Bella Herman and Adalynn Smith.
