John Franklin Dunbar, 97, of Grand Junction, died Friday, December 2, 2005 at Crockett County Nursing Home in Alamo.
The widower of Annie Elizabeth Smalley Dunbar, who died in 1998, he was retired as a postmaster, having worked 36 years. He was born October 6, 1908, in Grand Junction, son of the late James Frank Dunbar and Toula Hunt Dunbar and lived most of his life in Grand Junction. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and actively participated in and judged the National Bird Dog Field Trials. He loved baseball and was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Services were 2:30 PM Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Bolivar with his granddaughters, Deborah McLean and Molly Rowe officiating. Burial and graveside services were in Grand Junction City Cemetery with his son, James Franklin Dunbar officiating.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Betty and Bobby McLean of Alamo; a son and his wife, James Franklin and Rose Mary Dunbar of Signal Mountain; five grandchildren, Deborah McLean, Molly Rowe, Missy Weiner, Cowan Harter and John Dunbar; nine great-grandchildren, Kylie Brown, James and Kate Harter, Amy and Robert Rowe, Rebecca and Robert Weiner, Piper and Taylor Dunbar. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorena Henahan.
