John D Stricklin

John Dee Stricklin, age 89, of Collinwood, TN, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. John was born on June 27, 1935, the son of the late Elbert and Clara Gallien Stricklin.

John's love story began when he united in marriage with Lois Ann Kelso on June 29, 1957. Their bond was a testament to enduring love, a bond that was deeply felt even after her passing on June 26, 1988. Together, they created cherished memories, including many joyful moments at car shows, where John would proudly showcase his prized vehicles alongside his beloved wife and daughter.

Throughout his career, John wore many hats; he worked as a foreman at Stylon and Reynolds, owned Stricklin Hardware, sold cars at Barnett Chevrolet, maintained equipment at Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company, and worked at Ray’s Equipment, all while being a dedicated farmer. His strong work ethic and determination were inspiration to all who knew him.

John attended the Collinwood Freewill Baptist Church, John’s heart beats with a passion for family and community. He was one of the first founders of the Collinwood High School Football program, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. Additionally, he found joy in being part of the Wayne County Antique Tractor Club and the Jeep Club of North Alabama, where he shared his love for machines and camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts.

In his free time, John enjoyed long drives, taking in the sights and visiting friends and neighbors. His warm presence and friendly demeanor brought light into the lives of everyone around him. John will be remembered not just for his accomplishments and passions.

He is survived by his daughter, Shellie Stricklin Cannon (Brian) of Collinwood, TN; and his brother, Neal Stricklin (Bobbie Dean) of Collinwood, TN.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ann Kelso Stricklin; son, Timothy Paul Stricklin; parents, Elbert and Clara Stricklin; brothers, Shalor Stricklin, Robert Paul Stricklin, and Marion Stricklin; and sister, Virginia Beard.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm service time at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN with Greg Stults officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens in Collinwood, TN.

Pallbearers will be John Holt, Tyler Stults, Phillip Berry, Jake Smith, Jordan Cook, and Toby Stricklin.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Boone Wilson and Ray Stooksberry.
