Mr. Shoemaker passed away Sunday morning, August 14, 2016 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 14 days.
A native of Athens, TN, he was the son of the late John Gordon and Mary Reed Shoemaker. A 1966 graduate of Midway High School in Kingston, TN, he also graduated from Hiwassee College in Madisonville and attended Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens.
Mr. Shoemaker spent his entire 33 year career working in the concrete industry. First, as a concrete inspector for TVA before going to work as a supervisor for Plant Vogtle in Augusta, GA. He also had worked for Sherman International of Birmingham, AL, The Concrete Company of Columbus, GA, MMC of Jackson, MS and was employed lastly by Tri-State Ready Mix in Olive Branch, MS. He had worked over much of the country and in different parts of the world and was widely known as an expert in his field.
On February 3, 1984, he was united in marriage to the former Susan Cloud. They traveled together before moving to West Tennessee in 1999 and had been in the Middleton area for the past 10-12 years. "Shoe" was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, Middleton, TN and Meigs Masonic Lodge, #213, Decatur, TN.
He leaves as his survivors, his wife, Susan, of Middleton; two daughters, Heather (Bruce) Newman of Harrison, TN and Trudy (Jeremy) Brack of Decatur, TN; his brother and sister, Jerry Shoemaker and Chevi (Steve) Bearden, both of Decatur, TN; and four grandchildren, Karley and Garrett Newman; Caroline and Taylor Brack.
