John Tidwell “Ted†Covey, 89, of Saulsbury, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Quince Nursing Home in Memphis.
The widower of Beulah Stevens Covey, who died April 27, 1992 after 51 years of marriage, he retired in 1974 from Firestone as a tire builder after 34 years of service and was a cattle farmer since then. Mr. Covey was born September 3, 1916 in Hopewell, Miss., son of the late Robert Edward W. Covey and Ida Angeline McKee Covey. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Okinawa, earning the bronze Service Star, was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church and attended Saulsbury Baptist Church since 1976.
Services were 11:00 AM Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Saulsbury Baptist Church with Jim Madden and Rheesa Davis officiating. Burial was in Saulsbury Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, John Covey of Olive Branch, Miss. and Charles Covey of Germantown; two sisters, Lois Moffitt of Memphis and Waurene Stevens of Saulsbury; five granddaughters and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
