John Wilburn Castleman Sr.

John Wilburn Castleman Sr., age 84, of Waynesboro, TN, passed away on August 14, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Lawrenceburg, TN, the son of the late Wilburn O’Neal and Blanche Helton Castleman. John’s life was beautifully entwined with that of Patricia Diane Davis in marriage for 50 years.

John proudly honored his country as a member of the United States Army National Guard. John's journey through life was marked by a remarkable dedication and a remarkable work ethic. His professional life started at the Wayne County Bank, where he learned skills that enabled him to begin a diverse career that spanned several endeavors. He owned and operated both Western Auto Store and Mid-South Alarms in Waynesboro. He later brought his talents to Tennessee River Apparel, where he thrived in accounting and management. Ultimately, John's career found its culmination at the Bank of Waynesboro, where he pursued his work in computer information. John enriched the lives of those around him with both his expertise and kindness throughout his professional life.

A devoted member of the Waynesboro Bible Center, John’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. In his quiet moments, he found joy in creating stained glass art, delving into the world of computers, and passionately following sports, especially cheering on his grandchildren in their activities. Above all, John treasured the times spent with his family, forging bonds that will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Castleman; son, John Castleman Jr.(April); daughter, Andrea Butler (Bryan); sister, Barbara Echols (Marlon); brother-in-law, Ricky Davis; sister-in-law, Pam Littrell; and his beloved grandchildren, Caroline Reeves, Cayson Castleman, Cayden Castleman, Caylin Castleman, all of Waynesboro, TN and Coby Butler of Houston, TX.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his nephew, Ricky Echols; grandparents, John and Ora Helton, and John Mitchell and Carrie Jane Castleman; and his aunt, Ida Ray.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm service time at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, TN.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, TN with Rev. NJ Pope, Charles Hasting, and Rev. Lea Thornton Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens of Wayne County in Waynesboro, TN.

Those honored as pallbearers will be Charles Hasting, William Morgan, Chris Echols, Robert Haddock, James Kelly, Chris Littrell, Ricky Davis, Mike Rittman, and Bryan Butler.
