John William Bomar

January 12, 1921 — September 22, 2006

J. W. Bomar, 85, of Whiteville, died Friday evening, September 22, 2006 at Bolivar General Hospital.



He was born January 12, 1921 in Henry County, TN to Earl Enlow Bomar and Eva Edwards Bomar and moved to Whiteville at age 10. On his 22nd birthday, he married Rebecca Sammons, who survives.



He was a deacon for the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Fayette County, a World War II Marine veteran having served in Okinawa, Ruykyu Islands and the occupation of China and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Mr. Bomar was employed by Ford Motor Company in Memphis and Ohio, where he lived from 1958-1977. After 31 years, he retired as relief man on the chassis line and was a member of the Ford Retirees for 29 years. He lived most of his life in Whiteville and was a city alderman for over 22 years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed all sports, but especially hunting, fishing, golf and the UT Vols.



In addition to his wife, his survivors are four daughters, Angie Kimberlin of Willard, OH, Joyce Bomar of Sandusky, OH, Becky Jo Scott of Huron, OH and Dottie Beth Kane of Garland, TX; two sons, Sam Bomar of Collins, OH and Tim Bomar of Middleton; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Earl and a sister, Corene.
