John A. Spencer was born on January 22, 1942 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the son of the late Willie K. and Mazie Irene Horton Spencer.
On September 8, 1973, he was united in marriage to Sue Terry, who survives.
Mr. Spencer honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He worked as an iron worker and boiler maker for Procter & Gamble and was a member of Iron Workers Union #103. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and looking for arrowheads. He was a member of West Shiloh Baptist Church.
John A. Spencer departed this life on March 9, 2025 in Savannah, Tennessee, at the age of 83 years, 1 months, and 15 days.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue Spencer; daughters, Mitzy VanDuyn, Cindi Bowman, and Susan Nicholson; son, John Spencer II; brother, Jimmy Spencer; grandchildren, Hannah Nicholson, Matthew Tansy, Abigail Tansy, Alexis Shanks, Mariah Shanks, and Zachary Bowman; and great grandchildren, Krowley Shanks, Coulson Shanks, Julian VanDuyn, and Teegan VanDuyn.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Janice Wilbanks and Rebecca Bridges and brothers, Billy Spencer and Jerry David Spencer.
