Joe Wheeler Nesbitt was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on March 1, 1925, the son of Claude and Gertrude Baxter Nesbitt. On August 1, 1964, he was united in marriage to the former Vivian Faulkner, who survives.
Mr. Nesbitt spent most of his life in Hardin County, Tennessee, except for a few years in Wayne County. Seventeen of those years were spent working for Temple-Chattanooga as a machine operator, a position he also filled for seven years with Angelica. He was a member of the Holland's Creek Methodist Church and, during World War II, served his country as a member of the United States Navy.
Joe Wheeler Nesbitt departed this life at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital on August 17, 2005, at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Other than his wife, survivors include his daughter, Wanda Gobbell of Nashville, Tennessee; a step-daughter, Peggy Briley of Savannah, Tennessee; two step-sons, Don Condrey of Florence, Alabama and Phil Condrey of Savannah, Tennessee; a sister, Estelle Wright, of Columbia, Tennessee; five grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Don R. Nesbitt; one step-son, Jeff Condrey; one step-grandson, Lewis Condrey; two sisters, Mary Lee and Ollie Smith; four brothers, Hardin, Glenn, Forrest and Willie Nesbitt and three infant brothers and sisters.
