Joe S. Gray

Joe S. Gray was born February 5, 1940 in Savannah, Tennessee the son of the late Samuel Gilbert and Ruby Ferrell Gray. He was united in marriage to Nannie Faye Franks on February 19, 1960.

Joe Gray was a loving husband, daddy, poppie, brother and a friend to all. He served his country for 13 years in the National Guard. He worked as a carpenter, a brick mason for Douglas and Ancil Blount, a self-employed brick mason for 12 years, owned Joe Gray's Restaurant, and worked for the Riddell's at Piggly Wiggly for over 20 years. On the side, he was a pig farmer and planted row crops such as beans and corn. After he retired, he started Joe Gray's lawn service.

In his spare time, you could find him on the riverbank fishing, or in the woods coon and rabbit hunting. He especially loved to bar-b-que and fry up some catfish for family and friends. He enjoyed his grandchildren whether it was watching Hunter and Holly trap shoot, traveling to band competitions or attending football games. He enjoyed every activity with each grandchild.

Mr. Gray departed this life on March 30, 2015 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 75 Years, 1 Month, 25 Days. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nannie Faye Gray of Savannah, TN; five daughters, Shelia Hollin and husband Duck of Savannah, TN, Debbie Gray of Waynesboro, TN, Sharon Hodge and husband Mike of Paris, TN, Tammy Jerrolds and husband Cregg of Savannah, TN, Amy Cornelius and husband Brian of Corinth, MS; a brother, Robert Lee Gray and wife Peggy of Savannah, TN; eight grandchildren, Joe Callins, Daniel Jerrolds, Anna Hearn, Hunter Hodge, Holly Hodge, Justin Cornelius, Brittany Hollin, Dillon Hollin; three great grandchildren, Sjaan McCargar, Autumn Taylor, Grayson Jerrolds; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gray was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Mack Gray, Bobby Royce Gray, and Donnie R. Gray.
