Joe Neal Cox of Middleton, Tennessee was born September 10, 1918 in Hardeman County, the son of the late John Neal and Annie Sparks Cox. He was united in marriage for 62 years to Lenora Stamey Cox who preceded him in death in 2001.
Mr. Cox, 96, died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Veterans Home in Humboldt, Tennessee. A veteran serving during World War II, Joe Neal worked for many years at the Tannery in Bolivar. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was a farmer who loved to grow vegetables and watermelons. Mr. Cox was a member of Middleton United Methodist Church.
He is survived by son Bobby Joe Cox and wife Sharon of Millington; son James Neely Cox and wife Bettye of Flowery Branch, Georgia; and daughter Betty Sue McGarvey and husband Ken of Millington; along with seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Annis Cox Blankenship of Henning, Tennessee.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Teddy Minor; a great grandson Jacob Smith; two brothers Alex and Freddie Cox; and a sister, Evie Cox Bryant.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests friends to contribute memorials to their charity of choice.
