JOE NEIL BROWN
Bartlett, TN: Joe Neil Brown age 89 passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at his home.
He was born October 10, 1930 in Chester County, the son of the late George Alton and Hattie Holley Brown. He grew up in Enville and attended school in Adamsville and graduated Adamsville High School in 1951. He joined the U.S. Navy 1951 until 1955 during the Korean War. Upon his return he went to Barber School and began his career as a barber at Enville. He did this for seven years. He married Ruth Lee Mitchell on September 8, 1956. In 1963 they moved to Memphis. He began working as a Route man, for Bluff City Cigarette Services, retiring in 1997. They then moved to Bartlett, TN and he worked part time at Kroger for ten years to stay busy.
He enjoyed country music, fishing when he could, Andy Griffith, and watching basketball especially the Memphis Tigers.
He was active in church and they attended the Knight Arnold Church of Christ in Memphis for 34 years and then to the Quail Ridge Church of Christ about 15 years and more recently they had been members of the Ellendale Church of Christ.
He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spoiling them.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Ruth Lee Mitchell Brown of Bartlett; a son, Joe Mitchell Brown (Patty) of Brighten, TN and a daughter, Sharon Brown Hughes (Mark) of Bartlett and three grandchildren, Brittney Brown, Gregory Alan Hughes and Matthew Neil Hughes.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with David Looney officiating. Burial will follow at Milledgeville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday.
