Joan Gordon Thompson

Joan Gordon Thompson departed this life on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the age of 71 years and 12 days. She was born in Florence, Alabama, on July 15, 1951, the daughter of the late William Matthew and Mary Magalene McDaniel Gordon.

Joan worked for the Hardin County Board of Education as a First Grade Teacher for 38 years. She attended church at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Graham Chapel C.M.E. Church, both in Savannah, Tennessee, and St. James Missionary Church in Florence, Alabama. She enjoyed traveling and reading.

Joan is survived by her son, William Thompson and his wife Carrie of New Orleans, Louisiana; grandchildren, Chrisette, Tyler, and Riley; aunts, Mattie Lee Pride and Julia Belle Walker, both of Florence, Alabama; father of her children, James "Sonny" Thompson of Savannah, Tennessee; and best friend, Denise White of Savannah, Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her son, Richard Thompson.
