Jimmy Kay Walker was born February 27, 1932 in McNairy County, Tennessee the son of the late Joseph Kerby and Jewel Cobb Walker.
He was united in marriage to Billie Miller on March 22, 1952. Mrs. Walker preceded him in death on April 19, 2008, after 56 years of marriage.
Mr. Walker was the owner and operator of Hope McNairy County Memorial Cemetery in Selmer. He attended Northeast MS Community College in Boonville before graduating from Union University in 1958. He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons, Bethel Springs Lodge and Al Chymia Temple of the Shrine. He was also affiliated with the Sons of Confederate Veterans and was a member of New Salem Presbyterian Church. Mr. Walker formerly served as Scoutmaster of the Boy Scout Troop in Bethel Springs. He served as a Tennessee State Senator from 1962 until 1966, and was a former mayor of Bethel Springs and a McNairy County Commissioner. Mr. Walker also served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, from 1950 to 1954, and was serving as commander of Lodge 2418, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Walker departed this life on December 28, 2008 in Tupelo, Mississippi at the age of 76 Years, 10 Months, 1 Day. He is survived by two daughters: Jeannie Kaye Richards and husband Ronnie of Memphis, TN and Jeffery Miller Crawford and husband Robert of Charlotte, NC; a son, Joseph Richard (Jody) Walker and wife Teresa of Selmer, TN; five grandchildren: William Walker Richards, Joseph Richards, James Jefferson Richards, Rob Crawford, and John Kerby Crawford; a sister, Jo Doris Mueller and husband Arthur of North Little Rock, AR; and a host of extended family and friends.
