Jimmy R. Dickey

Jimmy R. Dickey was born October 28, 1933 in McNairy County, Tennessee the son of the late James Oscar (Buddy) and Florence Fullbright Dickey.



He was united in marriage to Amelia Martin on August 12, 1954.



Mr. Dickey retired as a Lieutenant from the Memphis Fire Department after 25 years of service. He returned to McNairy County and served as Selmer Fire Chief for approximately 3 years. He then served as Director for the McNairy County Emergency Management Agency and was McNairy County Fire Chief during the same 5 year period. He was the Chairman of McNairy County 911 from 1989 to 1993, and worked as a dispatcher from 1994 to 1997. Mr. Dickey was a Deacon for the Selmer First Baptist Church, where he served in various capacities, including a position on the re-building committee. He was elected Deacon Emeritus in 2009. He also served on the Executive Board of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Association, and worked with the Southern Baptist Mexico Mission effort. Mr. Dickey was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Selmer Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the Al Chymia Temple of the Shrine in Memphis. He was also a member of the Pickwick Shrine Club, and did volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity. He was presently serving on the Board of Directors for Pickwick Electric Cooperative. Mr. Dickey served in the United States Air Force for 8 years, and held the rank of Airman First Class at the time of his discharge. He had also served a term on the Selmer Board of Aldermen.



Mr. Dickey departed this life on March 7, 2010 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 76 Years, 4 Months, 7 Days. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Amelia Martin Dickey of Selmer, TN; a daughter, Collette Amelia Day and husband Aubrey Dairel Day, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, AL; a son, Martin R. Dickey and wife Lucille of Fort Collins, CO; four grandchildren: Trey Day and wife Melissa, Leah Day, Janet Dickey, and Jessica Dickey; a brother, Leland Dickey and wife Laverne of Fayetteville, NC; and a host of extended family and friends.
