Jim Bennett

January 19, 1954 — February 19, 2016

James Elliott Bennett, Sr. of Finger, Tennessee passed away suddenly on Friday, February 19th, he was 62.

Jim was born on January 19, 1954, in Pensacola, Florida where his dad was stationed in the Navy. He grew up and lived in New Jersey until moving to Tennessee in 1996.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Jennifer (Meli) Bennett; son James “Jimmy” Bennett Jr. and daughter in-law Deonna; and daughter Jessica Elvington and son in-law Todd; four grandchildren: Cameron, Triston, Aliyah and Adalyn all of Finger, TN. Jim is also survived by his brother Barry Bennett of Columbia MO and their parents Walter and Annie Bennett of Finger, TN, along with nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends.

Jim and Jennifer were the love of each other’s life. Jennifer feels so lucky and blessed to have shared her life with him. He always made her laugh and smile, even when life would throw them a curve ball.

Jim retired from his job as a truck driver and enjoyed his life at home surrounded by his loving family. His children, Jimmy and Jessica meant the world to him and looking after his grandchildren was a great joy for him. Adalyn, his youngest grandchild would be the first to tell you “Pop-pop Jim is my best friend!” Triston always looked forward to getting one of Pop-pop Jim’s texts while watching sports on TV teasing him about his favorite team or player. Aliyah loved watching movies with her Pop-pop Jim that she described as being made ‘back in the olden days.” Cameron passed his driver’s permit test because Pop-pop Jim took him to the test center and was his “good luck charm.”

Another of Jim’s great loves was caring for animals. His home was always filled with a variety of rescued dogs that became very spoiled and beloved family pets.

Jim will be missed. Jim was a big man, with a big heart and his presence enhanced all those who had the pleasure of meeting him. And if you had met Jim you know first-hand the absolute honor it was to have such a fine man in your life.
We love you Jim!
