Mrs. Jewel Elaine Oakes, 72, of Lexington, died Tuesday evening, May 29, 2007 at Henderson County Community Hospital in Lexington.
The widow of Jewell Thomas “Tom†Oakes, who died April 23, 2001 after 21 years of marriage, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Oakes was born May 5, 1935 in Madison County, daughter of the late Raymond and Wilma Emerson Collins. She lived here most of her life before making her home in Lexington. She loved her family and grandkids and was a member of Stringtown Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Randy Ross of Lexington; three grandchildren, Troy Littrell and his wife, Diane of Eufaula, Alabama, Hannah Ratliff and Caleb Ross, both of Lexington; one great granddaughter, Abigail Littrell of Eufaula, Ala.; a sister, Glenda Whisenhunt of Memphis and a brother, James Collins of Jackson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Frye; a brother, Donald Ray Collins and her first husband, James Ray Pulliam.
