Jewel Ingle Northcutt Smith



was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on June 7, 1917 the daughter of the late Charlie Inlow and Jessie Spears Ingle.



She was united in marriage to T. L. Northcutt, Jr., who preceded her in death. In 1946, she married Avon F. Smith, who preceded her in death in 1962.



Mrs. Smith worked at Brown Shoe Company for 25 years. She had also worked for Bendix Carburetor Plant in Detroit, Michigan during World War II. She was a member of East End Methodist Church and a former member of the Mabryville Home Demonstration Club. She was active in Women’s A.A.R.P. and a former volunteer at the hospital. Mrs. Smith liked quilting, growing flowers, making jams and jellies and the competitions at the Hardin County Fair.



She departed this life on December 2, 2006 at White Oak Manor in Charlotte, North Carolina at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 25 days.



Mrs. Smith is survived by 2 sons: Charles Jerry Northcutt of Charlotte, North Carolina and Steve D. Smith of Savannah, Tennessee; a step-daughter, Gwen Harris of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; 4 grandchildren: Julie Wilkins, Kim Northcutt, Stephanie Smith Linenfelser and Amanda Smith; 3 step-grandchildren: Clifford, Jeff and Phillip Harris;

5 great-grandchildren: Jessica and Nicole Harris, Katie and Joseph Wilkins and Kaleb Smith; a sister, Belle Sawner of Tempe, Arizona; a half-sister, Mary Sue Davis of Jackson, Tennessee; a half-brother, Terry Ingle of Bolivar, Tennessee; and a step-brother, Miley Higgins of Savannah, Tennessee.



She was preceded in death by

2 sisters: Katherine Goodwin and Opal Crunk and a brother, L.V. Ingle.
