Jewel Dean Battles

Jewel Dean Coggins Battleswas born in Collinwood, Tennessee on March 10, 1930 the daughter of the late Tom and Ester Brown.Ms. Battles was a homemaker and in her earlier years she had worked for Nelson's Nursing Home in Waynesboro, Tennessee. She was of Freewill Baptist Belief.Ms. Battles departed this life on Friday, April 24, 2009 at the age of 79 years, 1 month, 14 days.Ms. Battles is survived by 6 daughters, Shirley Battles and Kay Morris both of Clifton, Tennessee, Thelma Harmon of Knoxville, Tennessee, Joy Beecham, Johnna Austin, and Lisa Pilkinton all of Savannah, Tennessee; a brother, Pete Brown of Detroit, Michigan; 2 sisters, Zella Cummings of Collinwood, Tennessee and Opal Brewer of Waynesboro, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, Ms. Battles was preceded in death by her 1st husband, John Edward Coggins in 1960; her 2nd husband, Andrew Franklin Battles on February 13, 2001; a son, David Franklin Battles; 11 brothers and sisters.
