Jerry Lane Warrington, 74, Florence, AL, local poet laureate and author died Friday, November 25, 2006 at ECM Hospital after an extended illness with cancer. Mr. Warrington was known for his beautiful poetry and comical tales. He was the author of two books, “Thinkin’ Tho’ts†and “Truths, Exaggerations and Other Liesâ€. Jerry graduated from Collinwood High School in 1949 and served in the Korean Conflict from 1953-54. He retired from the Woodmen of the World as State manager of Pennsylvania and Northern Ohio in 1994.
Jerry was active as a Lay speaker in the United Methodist Church and was a motivational speaker. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World Fraternal Society, Masonic Lodge, VFW, American Legion, Elks Club, Tennessee Squires and was a charter member of the Wayne County Historical Society. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, John and Della Warrington of Lutts, TN and Thomas Warrington of McMinnville, TN.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Smith Warrington of Florence, daughter, Karen Kelly and husband, Billy Wayne of Columbia, TN, sons, Mark Warrington and wife, Tricia of Montgomery, AL, John Warrington and wife, Melissa of Hohenwald, TN, step-daughter, Trudy Blades of Florence, brothers, John Warrington and wife, Theresa of Las Vegas, NV, Maxwell Warrington of Lutts, TN, sisters, Peggy Griggs of Gallatin, TN, Patsy Austin and husband, Titus of Hohenwald, TN, sister-in-law, Kate Warrington of McMinnville, TN, grandchildren, Sarah Fitzgerald and husband, James of Columbia, TN, Daniel Kelly and wife, Leigh Ann of Culleoka, TN, Tyler Warrington of Bowie, MD, Leigh Anne and Christopher Warrington of Hohenwald, TN, step-grandchildren, Daniel and Derek Wall of Hohenwald, TN, great-grandchildren, Hannah Fitzgerald, Lane and Caleb Kelly.
Jerry was an inspiration to many people and will be missed by family and friends.
Memorial services will be Monday, November 27, 2006 at 11:00 am at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Collinwood, TN with Dr. John Yates, Rev. Alex Oberneder, Mickey Davis, Ray Holt, and Ralph Thompson officiating. The visitation with the family will be from 9:00 am until service time at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.
