Jerry Arnold Thompson, born on July 23, 1939, to Jack and Ava Thompson, passed away on January 9, 2025, in Memphis, Tennessee, from heart failure after a lengthy hospital stay. He was 85 years old. Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara G. Thompson, and his parents, Jack and Ava Thompson. He is survived by his two sons, Jerry G. (Brandy) Thompson of Spokane, Washington, and Jay M. (Sherry) Phillips of Nesbit, Mississippi; his grandchildren, Jonathan Thompson, Tyson Thompson, William Thompson, Samantha Phillips, and Delanie Garcia Cardenas; and his brother, Jack P. Thompson of Memphis, Tennessee. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Jerry served for eight years as an aircraft mechanic specializing in bombers. Following his military service, he pursued machinist training at Boeing and later founded Continental Machine Tool Inc., which he successfully operated from 1983 until his retirement in 2006. In retirement, Jerry settled in Selmer, Tennessee, where he enjoyed 24 years as a valued member of the community. He found great joy in fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors. Above all else, Jerry treasured moments shared with family and friends. Jerry’s legacy of hard work, dedication to his craft, and love for the simple pleasures of life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing. No services held.
