Jerry Neil Taylor, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, was born on January 6, 1936 in Friendship, Tennessee, the beloved son of the late Dalton and Ollie B. Taylor.
Growing up he was known for being a skilled cotton picker and a expert roller skater, which came in handy with his granddaughters many years later. He was united in marriage to Dottie Jean Bonds on August 2, 1959, who preceded him in death on October 7, 2021.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and retired to Selmer, Tennessee in 1974. He then began working for the United States Post Office in Selmer until his retirement. He was well known and loved by everyone that came in the post office for his kindness and sweet smile. He was also known by everyone in his neighborhood for his daily walks, always watching over everyone and willing to lend a helping hand when anyone needed it.
His greatest joys in life were his daughter, his two granddaughters, and his two great grandsons. He was devoted to them and loved spending time with his granddaughters as they grew up. He was well known by all their friends, picking them up from school and watching over them.
Mr. Taylor departed this life on April 24, 2025 in Selmer, TN at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 18 days.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Kim Smith, two granddaughters, Taylor McMurry (Ty) and Rylee Smith (Brennan), two great grandsons, Bennett and Pierce McMurry, two sisters, Shirley Chorley and Annette Pugsley (Bernie).
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his brother Fred Taylor.
Jerry's life touched the hearts of everyone who knew him, and he will forever be deeply missed by his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his kindness and dedication to his family.
