J.C. Smith
was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on August 5, 1919 the son of the late John C. and Belle Hunt Smith.
On March 18, 1942 he was united in marriage to the former Lizzie DeShazier, who survives.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was highly decorated for his service to his country. He retired from Parris Manufacturing Company and had also worked as a farmer and for General Motors. Mr. Smith was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, and was a lifetime member of the VFW.
He departed this life on June 3, 2006 at Regional Hospital of Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 29 days.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Lizzie Smith of Savannah, Tennessee;
3 daughters: Patsy Beam, Barbara Hunt and Tammy Neill all of Savannah; one son, James C. Smith of Savannah; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;
6 brothers: Dave Smith of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Billy Smith of Jonesboro, Arkansas,
Carl Smith of Milan, Tennessee, Ted Smith of Savannah, Larry Joe Smith of Savannah and Tommy Jack Smith, also of Savannah; 4 sisters: Sid Scott, Sue Pipes, Emma Todd and Robbie Jo Frazier, all of Savannah and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Smith; 2 grandchildren: Jason Smith and Lisa Hunt and 2 sisters: Grace Crotts and Mary Smith.
