Mr. Jay F. Wright was born September 11, 1925 in Wayne County, TN, the son of the late John Henry and Fannie Bell Sherrill Wright. Mr. Wright worked in maintenance at Hassell and Hughes Lumber Company. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart after having been wounded in The Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the American Legion Post 254 in Collinwood and a member of the Collinwood Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was united in marriage to Effie Vickery on July 12, 1944. Mr. Wright departed this life on February 29, 2020, in Waynesboro, Tennessee making his stay in this life some 94 Years, 5 Months and 18 Days.
He is survived by his wife of almost 76 years, Effie Marie Vickery Wright of Collinwood, TN; a son, Larry K. Wright and wife Katy of Cypress Inn, TN; two brothers, Clifford Wright and wife Ethel of Cypress Inn, TN, Guilford Wright and wife Alice of Iron City, TN; two grandchildren, Wendy Self and husband Matt, and Laura Reaves; two great grandchildren, Jessie Kelsey and husband Steven and Tyler Morgan. He is also survived by three great great grandchildren Lakai, Aiden and Silas Kelsey, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on March 2, 2020, at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Tim Hanback and Steven Turnbow officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens at Collinwood with Full Military Honors.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wright was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruthie Patterson, Ruby Southerland, Ruia Pigg, Eva Roberson; three brothers, Clayborn Wright, Robert D. Wright, Johnny B. Wright; and a great grandson Lucian Reaves.
