Janette Russell Lawrence, 76, of Bolivar, died Saturday, January
15, 2005 at Methodist Hospital in Somerville.
Born July 1, 1928, to the late James Franklin Russell and Johnye
Elizabeth Webb Russell, she was a homemaker. Lawrence was a
finalist in the Maid of Cotton contest at the Memphis Cotton
Carnival. She was the first librarian of the Hardeman County Library, a teacher in her early years, a former member of the
Tuesday Literary Club and a charter member of the Duplicate
Bridge Club. Lawrence was known for calling friends on their
birthdays. She lived most of her life in Hardeman County and was
a member of the First Baptist Church of Bolivar.
Services were 3 pm Sunday, January 16 at First Baptist Church in
Bolivar with David Cooper officiating. Burial was in Bolivar
Memorial Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar
were in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include son, William Lawrence, II of Cordova; son and
daughter-in-law, John Russell and Lisa Cothren-Lawrence of
Memphis, one sister, Jeanne R. Waller of Bolivar; 3 grandchildren,
Russell E. Lawrence, Kelsey R. Lawrence and Olivia Ann
Lawrence.
