Funeral services for Mr. James N. (Pedro) Wolford, age 82, will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Shackelford Funeral Home in Selmer with Rev. Jetta Forsythe and Rev. Chris Dancer officiating. Burial will follow at Helbert Cemetey in Adamsville, TN.
Mr. Wolford passed away Friday at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born on December 26, 1924 in Franklin, Arkansas to the late Annie Mahan Wolford Moody and Frank Wolford. He was a retired electrician and WW II Navy Veteran who served in the South Pacific. Trained as a signalman (SM 3/C), he served on the USS Atascosa, an oiler in the 7th Fleet. Mr. Wolford's sea duty began off Guadalcanal in September, 1943 and ended at Tokyo Bay in August, 1945. He was awarded battle stars and campaign ribbons for action at Kwajalien, Eniwetok, Ulithi, Saipan, Okinawa, and for the campaign of Tarawa. He was discharged on November 8, 1945.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 53 years, Eva Lee Britton Wolford, one daughter Anna Lee Wolford, and one brother Max Williford.
Survivors include four children, Pat Warren of Dyersburg, TN , Judy Cummins of Paducah, KY, Jimmy Wolford and Timmy Wolford of Selmer, seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Warren of Cordova, Chris Dancer of Bethel Springs, Barry Dancer of Norwalk, CT, John Wolford, Daniel Wolford, Jessica Wolford all of Selmer and Matthew Wolford of Virginia Beach, VA.. One great grandchild Eva Katherine Dancer of Bethel Springs. One Brother Darrel Moody of Cave City, AR, three sisters, Maudeene King of Cave City, Maybelline Copeland of Pearl River, LA. and Ora Lou Anderson of Olive Branch, MS.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Chris Dancer, Barry Dancer, Matthew Wolford, Daniel Wolford, John Wolford, and Charlie Dancer. Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Warren and David Ayers.
