Mr. James W. "Red" Avent, age 89 of Whiteville, Tennessee, passed from this life Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Avent was born Tuesday, July 19, 1927 in Hickory Valley, Tennessee to the late Samuel Walters and Hester Ophelia Callahan Avent. On June 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Nadine Avent, who survives.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and worked as a Farmer. He also sold cars and drove a bread truck in his earlier years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren and quail hunting. He was a member of the Whiteville Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Mark Avent of Whiteville, Timmy Avent of Whiteville, and Andy Avent of Rock Springs, Wyoming; sisters, Bernice Sandy of Corinth, Mississippi, and Margaret Vincent of Nashville; brother, Benny Avent of Michie; grandchildren, Dani Gomez, David Avent, Joey Avent, Brittany "BJ" Avent, Heather Hindman, Shane Sullivan, Jeremy Avent, Wesley Avent and Andrea; several great-grandchildren; and former daughter-in-law, Deb Avent of Altoona, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Sammy Avent and Matthew Avent; sister, Louise Sain; and brothers, Frank Avent, Wade Avent and Phenton Avent.
