James J. Sharkey, 71, of Memphis, died early Sunday morning, June 18, 2006 at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Memphis.
The husband of Jessie Vandiver Sharkey, who survives, he was an air traffic controller in many places across the country. He was born May 6, 1935 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, son of the late John Anthony Sharkey and Julia Theresa Martz Sharkey. He served in the U. S. Navy and was a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion as well as St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church.
Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bolivar with Father Carl Hood officiating. Burial is in West Memorial Cemetery near Saulsbury.
In addition to his wife, whom he married May 9, 1958, survivors include one sister, Judith Connor of Audubon, Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John J. Sharkey in 1987.
