James Ancil Presley, age 72, died January 16, 2009, following a long illness. Mr. Presley was a resident of Fairfield, CA, since 1974, and was born and raised in Michie, TN.
Jim is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley; a sister, Jayne Wharton of Birmingham, AL; two brothers, Floyd Presley of Michie, and Joe Presley and wife Pat of Eastview. He was preceded in death by his parents Ancil and Helen McAfee Presley and a brother Ray Presley of Steger, IL.
Jim was a member of the 1954 graduating class of Michie High School and joined the Army on May 27, 1954. He retired from military service on June 30, 1974. His military career included foreign tours of duty in Korea, Germany, Japan, and two tours of active combat duty in Vietnam. He retired with rank of First Sergeant and was awarded the bronze star medal with oak leaf cluster, Vietnam campaign medal, Vietnam service medal, national defense service medal with oak leaf cluster, parachute badge, marksman badge with M16, sharpshooter badge .45 caliber pistol, sharpshooter badge M1 carbine. He was a Green Beret paratrooper with 25 jumps, and retired as a cryptanalyst with the Army Security Agency. Jim also retired from a Court Clerk position in Solano County, CA.
Military graveside memorial services will be held at Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery on Sunday, March 8, 2009, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends in the church beginning at 1:00 PM prior to the service.
