James Pennington

Bethel Springs, TN: James Roger Pennington, age 82, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023 at his home.

He was born in West Virginia, the son of the late David McKinley and Lola Francis Hardy Pennington.  He went to school in West Virginia.  He served in the U S Army from September 1959 to September 1962, stationed in Korea a year.  He was a long-haul diesel truck driver, retiring in 2006  and was a member of the Teamsters Union. 

He married Shirley Faye Moss, and they made their home in Aurora, IL.  After his retirement they moved to Bethel Springs.  Mrs. Pennington passed way in 2017.

He enjoyed small engine repair after his retirement, especially working on lawn mowers and four-wheelers. He enjoyed studying the Bible.

He is survived by a son David Pennington and wife Susan of Bethel Springs, two stepsons, John Mark Roach, and wife Pamela of Earlville, IN and Jay Roach of Panama City, FL.  He has four grandchildren: Stacy O’Dell (Patrick), Stephanie Phillips (John), Jayson Roach and Logan Roach, five great grandchildren: Hunter O’Dell, Harley O’Dell, Jordan Phillips, Kaylee Phillips, and Clayton Phillips and a great-great grandchild Paisley Faye Phillips. 

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Harold T. Pennington, Clifford Pennington, and Billy Joe Pennington.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Harvey Triplet officiating.  Burial will follow at Shiloh Church Cemetery east of Henderson.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue Chapel beginning at 9 am Saturday.
