Henderson: James Alvin Patterson, age 73, passed away May 15, 2009 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born and reared in the Laurel Hill Community of Chester County, the son of the late Arnold Unford and Sula Mae Seratt Patterson. He went to school at Old Friendship and Hickory Corner. He was married to Mary Turner in 1958 and he entered the U.S. Army in 1958. He did basic training at Fort Smith, AR and spent 18 months in Stuttgart, Germany. He was a meat cutter at Kroger starting in Blytheville, AR, Big Star in Whitehaven, TN and then Miller’s Big Star and J.W. Patterson Grocery. They then owned and operated Laurel Hill Grocery Store. He also worked as a dispatcher for Chester County. He did carpenter work and then retired as a meat cutter at Kroger on South Highland. He had done small carpenter jobs during his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Turner Patterson of Finger; one son, Ronald Lynn Patterson of Memphis; five Janet Marie Meek of Memphis, Mary Elizabeth Roten and Husband Ricky of Bethel Springs, Brenda Faye Cobb and husband John of Selmer, Sharon Kay Hall and husband Billy of Walnut, MS and Tamara Jean Tunning of Finger; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers, J.C. Patterson and wife Ann of Burns, TN and Morris Wayne Patterson and wife Peggy Sue of Finger and two sisters, Jewell McBride of Jackson and Lucy Locke of Finger.
