JAMES L. PATTERSON
Finger, TN: James L. Patterson age 89 passed away July 27, 2019 at his home.
He was born September 11, 1929 in Chester County, the son of the late James Oberd and Estelle Morton Patterson. He grew up in the Hickory Corner Community. He moved to Peoria, IL in 1950 where he went to work at Caterpillar. He married Dorothy Greene January 27, 1951. They lived in Peoria and later Pekin, IL. James retired from Caterpillar in 1977 after 30 years of service. He also had a landscaping business in Pekin.
James was inducted into the army December 3, 1952. He participated in the Korean War where he served in the 24th Division 19th Regiment and was a corporal in rank. He was discharged October 22, 1954. After being discharged he moved back to Pekin where he worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 30 years.
James and Dorothy moved back to Henderson, Tennessee in 1987 to the farm he grew up on in the Hickory Corner Community. He enjoyed raising cattle, goats, chicken’s and loved his mules.
He had many friends and was always ready to help anyone if he saw the need.
He attended the New Home Baptist Church.
James and Dorothy have three children; a son Greg(Janice); son Terry (Jo Ellen), and daughter Cindy (Tim) Lucas, grandchildren; Josh (Lindsay) Patterson, Jesse Patterson, Drew (Melissa) Patterson, Kyle (Lacey) Patterson, Matt (Michaela) Lucas, and Makenzie Lucas, great grandchildren; Lainey Patterson, Jepp Patterson, Emma Patterson, and Keely Patterson.
He is also survived by four sisters, Elvie Lee Sanders of Montezuma, Ellna Roland of Henderson, Barbara Smith of Bartlett and Ann Morris of Bolivar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Veda Hailey, Arvie Bishop, Allie Faye Sheffield, two brothers; Charles and Ray Patterson, and a granddaughter, Laura Rose Patterson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday July 29 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Gerald Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cave Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday.
