James R. Montgomery was born November 2, 1926 in Cypress Inn, Tennessee the son of the late Norman Fletcher and Willie Mae Cypert Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery departed this life Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Wayne Medical Center at the age of 83 Years, 6 Months, 9 Days. In addition to his parents, Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian and brothers, Aaron, Cranson, and Carl. Mr. Montgomery served in the U.S. Marines, was retired from Murray Ohio Manufacturing Co.. and attended Ray's Chapel Baptist Church. Being a member of one of the most talented country music singing and songwriting families, he was well known throughout the county. Although he could sing and pick the guitar very well and could have been a professional musician, he chose to live the simple life; farming, working, enjoying family life, and in earlier years raising livestock, especially horses and horse trading. He will truly be missed and was so loved by everyone.
He is survived by his wife Clara Bell Skelton Montgomery;
two daughters, Patricia Joyce Burns and Pamela Mae Thompson all of Waynesboro, TN; a brother, Earl (Peanut) Montgomery of Sheffield, AL; sisters, Melba Joyce Montgomery of Nashville, TN and Vida Ruth Montgomery of Sheffield, AL; granddaughter, Amy Lynn Suggs of Chattanooga, TN, step-grandsons, Brandon Burns and Jeremy Burns both of Waynesboro, TN; several nieces, nephews, and other family members.
