Mr. McClendon passed away Saturday morning, April 17, 2010 at the Tennessee State Veteran's Home in Humboldt.
The husband of Vonzille Wood McClendon, who survives, he was a farmer and rural postal carrier for 22 years. He was born on September 2, 1917, in Toone, son of the late Jessie Thomas McClendon and Nina Jones McClendon and lived most of his life here. He served in the US Army during WW II in Okinawa and received the Bronze Star. Mr. McClendon was a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Lisa Maxwell of Silerton, Carla Mayer and her husband, Rick, of Jackson and Beth McClendon of Henderson; two stepdaughters, Beth Burke and her husband, Tom, Annette Tyler and her husband Randy, all of Lexington; a sister, Louise Nuckolls of Chattanooga; a brother in law, Odell Leinart of Chattanooga; 6 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Katharine McClendon in 1977, three brothers, J. T., Fred and Billy McClendon and a sister, Ruth Leinart.
