JAMES MASSENGILL
Henderson: Mr. James O. Massengill, age 95 passed away Friday evening, September 23, 2022 at his home in Henderson.
He was born September 15, 1927 in the Sweetlips Community of Chester County, TN, son of the late Odus and Etness Lee Massengill. He grew up there and attended Sweetlips School.
He married Sue Ellis on January 23, 1955 and they have been married 67 years.
Mr. Massengill was very skilled as a craftsman building furniture and doing upholstery work for many years. He was also an excellent musician and enjoyed gospel music and playing many musical instruments. He even used his woodworking skills to craft many instruments. He owned and operated Star Music in Henderson for many years.
He was a very spiritual man who enjoyed reading his Bible. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church but had later attended First Assembly Church in Henderson for over 20 years.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Sue Massengill of Henderson; a son Tracy Massengill (Christy) of Henderson; a daughter Phyllis Holder of Beech Bluff, TN; four grandchildren Lauren Massengill, Jacob Massengill (Patience), and Seth Massengill; and two sisters Shirley Ellington of Springfield, MO and Ocidell Massengill of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Chris Holder.
His funeral will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson - Crook Avenue Chapel with Bro. Denny Broadway officiation. Burial will follow in Milledgeville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Wednesday at Crook Avenue Chapel.
