James M. “Jimmy†Lofton, 60, of Walnut, Miss. died Thursday, December 1, 2005 in Raymond, Mississippi.
The husband of Brenda LaQuita Cox Lofton, who survives, he worked in aviation research and development. Mr. Lofton was born April 6, 1945 in Clarksdale, Miss., son of the late Morris and Eula Mae Haley Lofton. He was raised in Middleton and lived in Memphis for several years before returning here to make his home in 1973. Mr. Lofton was a 31-year charter member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a continual witness for the Lord. He was active in children’s and prison ministries and founded the aviation ministry “Wings for Christ†in 1978. Mr. Lofton knew people all over the world from his aviation missions. He flew supplies and work teams in to build orphanages and schools and helped missionaries move in and out of the field.
Services were 11 am Friday, December 9, 2005 at Calvary Baptist Church with John Hunter and Shane Scott officiating. Burial was in Middleton City Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
In addition to his wife, whom he married in 1965, he is survived by one daughter, Leah Lofton Everett and her husband, Les of Ramer; one son, James Lofton, Jr. of Middleton; two brothers, John Edward Lofton of Walnut, Miss. and Otis Henry of Somerville and his wife and daughter, Lynn and Emily; one grandchild, Ericka Shawn King; mother-in-law, Juanita Cox of Middleton; brother-in-law, Jackie Cox and his wife and daughters, Cathy, Andrea, Layne and Courtney.
