James Elbert Howell, 93, of Bolivar, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at Bolivar General Hospital.
The widower of Lula Mae Sisco Howell, who died June 27, 1999 after 65 years of marriage, he wed on February 15, 1934. He retired from Bolivar Tannery after 23 years of employment. After retirement he worked at Bolivar Amoco for a few years. Mr. Howell was born October 12, 1912 in Hardeman County, son of the late John Thomas Howell and Minnie Hattie Victoria Pipkin Howell. He lived most of his life in Hardeman County except for a few years in Bemis, Tennessee and was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.
Services were 1 pm Thursday, November 10, 2005 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel, with Bertie Moore, Frank Bell and Adrian Knipper officiating. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery in Middleton, with Jimmy, Ricky, Tommy and Joey Howell, Mike McAlpin and Ross Wright as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Terry, Randall and Brian Howell, Tony Wright, Jeremy Graves, Ricky Watkins, and Scott Pearl.
He is survived by two sons Bobby Howell and Kenneth (Teresa) Howell of Middleton; four daughters Thelma (Van) McDonald and Shirley Graves of Middleton, Glenda (Bill) Irvin of Millington and Sandra (Johnny) Wright of Walnut, Mississippi; three daughters-in-law Bonnie, Dora and Frances Howell all of Middleton; two sisters Shrilda Stamey of Middleton and Minnie Ledford of Walnut, Mississippi; 30 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sons Cecil, Donald and John Thomas Howell; a daughter-in-law Martha Lois Davis Howell; two grandsons Sammy Lynn Howell and infant Howell; one granddaughter Joyce Ann McDonald and one great grandson Ben McDonald.
