James L. (Jim) Decker was born in Parches Cove, Alabama on April 26, 1934, the son of the late Norman and Millie Artis Decker. On August 18, 1956, he was united in marriage to Dixie Nell Donnell, who survives. Jim was a veteran of the US Air Force. He loved to vegetable garden, hunt, and fish. Jim was a hard worker, he was a farmer, heavy equipment operator, a maintenance man and he was a truck driver for Ryder Company. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Stantonville, Tennessee and a 32nd Degree at the Adamsville Lodge.
On the day of his accident, he steered his truck and gave his life to avoid others from being involved in the wreck. Jim departed this life on Friday, October 18, 2013,at North Mississippi Medical Center at the age of 79 years, 5 months, 22 days.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Dixie Donnell Decker of Savannah, Tennessee, he is survived by a son, Brian David Decker of Lowell, Indiana; grandson, Erick Decker; great grandson, Peyton Decker; sisters, Marie Goodlett and Artie Gallagher both of Arab, Alabama, and Evana Harmon of North Huntsville, Alabama; his dog, Doc, his cat, Buddy, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Earl Decker.
