James K. Davis

July 12, 1919 — March 17, 2008

Pinson: James Kermit Davis, Sr., age 88, died March 17, 2008 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.



He was born and reared in McNairy County, Finger Community, the son of the late Calvin Troy and Annie Florence Plunk Davis. He attended school in McNairy County. In 1939 he joined the Civil Conservation Corp and in 1941 entered the U.S. Army, he served stateside until 1943, serving in training outfits 1 ½ years and served as Staff Sergeant in the South Pacific, in heavy truck transport until WWII ended in 1945. He was married to Coleen Etheridge of the Rocky Knob Community in 1943. They made their home in Memphis. He drove long haul trucks for Layne & Bowler, Humko and later Kraft for 24 years, and retired in 1981 and moved to Pinson.



He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson, where he served as Deacon and loved to sing. He was a member of the Gideon International, Henderson V.F.W.



He is survived by two sons, Jeff Davis of Pinson, Jimmy Davis (Mary) of Bartlett; two daughters, Donna Prunkl (Pete) of Salisbury, NC and Cindy Anderson (David) of Pinson; a daughter-in-law, Martha Davis: ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond T. Davis of Henderson; two sisters, Nevana Vires and Charlene McNair both of Finger.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Coleen Davis (2007), a son Keith Davis (2002) and a brother, Charles C. Davis (1929).
