He was born and reared in Chester County, the Sweetlips Community, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson ‘Tom’ and Emma Cone Cothren. He attended Chester County Schools and farmed as a young man. He was married to Irene Roland, January 31, 1942. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served two years. After returning from the service he began working at Henderson Compress for a few years and worked for Quality Mfg. until he retired in 1980. He loved the outdoors, loved gardening, fishing and was an avid quail hunter. He was a Baptist and served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife Irene Roland Cothren of Henderson and would have been married sixty five years at the end of this month; three daughters Linda Blakely (Brody) of Jackson, Pat Burkhead (Tony) and Nancy Hopper (Roger) all of Henderson; six grandchildren, Randy Johnson, Reggie Johnson, Holly Hemby, Britt Burkhead, Shane Hopper and Blake Hopper; two step grandchildren Randy Blakely and Aimee Oxley; six great grandchildren, Chad, Cortney, Cassie and Chase Johnson and Hunter and Hannah Hemby: and four step great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Logan Blakely, Kaleigh Pruitt and William Riley Oxley; and a brother Raymond Cothren and two sisters Gladys Terry and Ozell Culp all of Henderson.
