James Alvin Burns, Sr., 61, of Bells, died Monday evening, March 14, 2005 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The husband of Mary Aileen Qualls Burns, who survives, he was a
construction worker for Julian Builders in Jackson, Tenn. Mr. Burns
was born April 27, 1943 in Hardeman County, son of the late James
Wilburn Burns and Wilma Louise Vandiver Burns. Raised in Tipton
County, he lived for many years in Haywood County before making his home in Bells several years ago. He loved to fish and golf and was a member of the Church of God in Covington.
Services were 2 p.m. Thursday, March 17 at Shackelford's chapel in
Bolivar with Lonnie Robinson officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bolivar.
In addition to his wife, whom he married March 12, 1983, survivors
include two sons, James Alvin Burns, Jr. of Alamo and Michael Burns of Covington; four step-daughters, Christy Humfleet of Hendersonville, Helen Stanley of Brownsville, Carol Ballinger of Alamo and Cheryl Keiper of Dayton, Tex.; two step-sons, Gary Odell Curtis of Brownsville and Jerry Allen Curtis of Stanton; three sisters, Velma Lowrance of Bolivar, Evelyn Glass of Covington and Brenda Rogers of Brighton; two brothers, Paul Burns of Covington and Larry Burns of Stanton; three grandsons who lived with him, Andy, Zachary and Cody Burns; thirteen step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheila Burns and one brother, Ernest Burns.
