James L. Bartlett, 68, of Bolivar, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at
Bolivar General Hospital.
The husband of Betty Rose Jackson Bartlett, who survives, he
owned Middleton Sale Co., a livestock dealer and was a former
Vice-Principal of Chalybeate High School in Mississippi. Mr.
Bartlett was born April 29, 1936 in Pocahontas, son of the late
Oscar and Mertie Voyles Bartlett, grew up in Tippah County and
has lived here since his marriage. He was a former Little League
coach, an All-Star basketball player and was a member of Hebron
Baptist Church in Middleton.
Services were 3 PM Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Shackelford's
chapel in Bolivar with Jack Carver and Bertie Moore officiating.
Burial was in Hebron Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, whom he married December 8, 1957,
survivors include one daughter, Jamie Bartlett Watkins and her
husband, Jimmy of Bolivar; one son and his wife, Wendell and
Carla Bartlett of Bolivar; two sisters, Hazel Montgomery of
Walnut, Miss. and Lila Furtick of Ripley, Miss.; four
grandchildren, Jeremy and Jenna Watkins, Stephen and Blake
Bartlett and one great grandchild, Gavin Watkins. He was
preceded in death by two brothers, G. C. and William Ray Bartlett
and two sisters, Hermie Nails and Lela Hudson.
