James 'Jim' Ashworth, Jr. was born January 30, 1925 in Clarksdale, Mississippi the son of the late James M. Ashworth, Sr. and Savannah Lee Hardeman Ashworth.He was reared in Memphis, TN. He volunteered for the army one day after Pearl Harbor just before his 17th birthday. He served from December 1941 until March 1943 but never served overseas. He worked with his father as a painter for several years after his discharge from the army; then in different professions including all Forest Hill cemeteries, Memorial Park, Memory Hills and Woodhaven, as a Counselor, Veterans Cab as a field supervisor, where he met Hattie. He owned a delivery service in Memphis until 1980 when they moved to Houston and worked for a delivery company for two years, he later went to work in his true calling, painting. He moved to Henderson in 1992. He was a member of the First Untied Methodist Church in Henderson and a lifetime member of the D.A.V.
He is survived by ; his wife Hattie Ashworth of Henderson, TN; four daughters, Monna Lee Bowers, Munford Tn Ruth "Crickett" Stone, Ada OK Rhonda Cheryl Bartsch,Henderson, Tn Crystal "Leesa" Settle; Beech Bluff Tn a son, Roy C. Smith, Jr.of Philadelphia Ms.; 15 grandchildren;20 great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Mr. Ashworth was preceded in death by two sons, James M. Ashworth, III , Paul Edward Ashworth; a brother, William Franklin Ashworth;
