J. Fay Turman

Funeral Services will be held for Coach Fay Turman on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at 1:00 pm Shackelford Funeral Home , Waynesboro, TN with George William Davis, Ray Hollis, Jr and Burl Graham officiating. Interment following in Greenwood Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 21, from 5:00-9:00 pm and on Thursday, May 22, from 8:00 am until service time at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, Waynesboro.
Coach Turman will be best remembered for his athletic career, having played baseball for the Blue Raiders while in school at Middle Tennessee State University. Upon graduation, he began his career teaching and coaching at several schools, the last being Apollo Middle School in Nashville, TN for 30 years.
He had a great love for ballroom dancing, which he taught for some time. He taught with Arthur Murray Studios and the Fred Astaire School for Dance. In his career, he won numerous medals for ballroom dancing.
Above all, he had a genuine love of people.
He is the son of the late J. Fay Turman, Sr . and Louise Turman. He is survived by one son, J. Fay Turman, III (Gina), two daughters, Jennifer Kay Wilson, (Clay), Joyce Sue Turman, (Scott). Five grandchildren, Alexandria Ann Turman, Lillian Leigh Turman, William Chase Wilson, Christian Cain Wilson, Fraser Greene Putney. He has two sisters, Jimmie Nell Hicks, Rose Marie Helton and the late Joyce Sue Black. One brother, Bob Cole Turman(Sarah). One aunt, Mrs. Lillian Hollis and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The pallbearers will be Lonnie Gallaher, Glenn Trammell, Jim Helton, Richard Davenport, Richard Black, Cole Turman, Drew Turman, Jeff McWilliams and Ryan McWilliams. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of his graduating class of 1961.
