J. R. Johnson

J. R. JOHNSONHenderson, TN: Joe Rufus Johnson, age 75, passed away March 16, 2010 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.He was born and reared in Chester County, the son of the late William Everett and Margie Mae Hill Johnson. He attended school at Harmony. He was the oldest boy of seven children and began farming at the age of thirteen to help provide for his younger siblings. He worked at Henderson Compress, spotting and weighing cotton. He had also worked in construction work with the Crouse brick layers and later worked as a self employed carpenter and brick layer. Mr. Johnson retired in 2000.He is survived by a son, Ray Johnson of Selmer; two brothers, James Johnson and Lawrence Johnson both of Henderson; three sisters, Nell Vires, Ann Hysmith and Carolyn Henry all of Henderson.He was preceded in death by a sister, Willie Mae Ross.
