Mr. J. D. King of Galloway, TN, passed from this life at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital Friday morning, October 4, 2013 at the age of 83 years and 11 months.
The son of Johnny Nelson and Ardelia Glidewell King, he was born in Jackson, TN on November 4, 1929. He was married to Dorothy Mae King who died March 4, 2008 and and enjoyed gardening, travelling with RV Clubs, was an avid fisherman and supporter of 4-H, and was a Boy Scout master. He served in the US Army for 2 years and a member of Braden Baptist Church where he served as deacon. A true public servant, he resided in Galloway since 1968 where he had served over 20 years as the 1st Fire Chief and Vice Mayor, and was retired from the Department of Transportation for the State of Tennessee.
Survivors include 2 sons James D King of Murfreesboro and Jerry King and his wife Carol of Nashville; 2 brothers Joe Nelson King of Medon and Eugene King of Nashville; 2 sisters, Doris Jackson of Medon and Willie Ruth Sipes of Hornsby; and 3 grandchildren, Katie King, Jason and Joseph Connell. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Joe King, Jr. a sister, Opal King and 2 sons, Lloyd Darrell and Michael Glynn King.
