Obituary for Irene Gibson Holloway
Irene Gibson Holloway was born on May 3, 1920 near Enville in Chester County. She was the daughter of the late Robert Allen and Mary Vernon Burross Gibson.
She was united in marriage to Robert Lee Holloway on November 25, 1955.
In addition to being a housewife, Mrs. Holloway was a schoolteacher for most of her adult life. She taught at Tri-County School in Milledgeville for thirteen years after receiving a teacher’s certificate from Freed-Hardeman College. She then resigned to start her family. Upon completing her bachelor’s degree at David Lipscomb College, she resumed teaching. She taught for three years in Madison County and then for nineteen years in Hardin County before retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Savannah Heights Church of Christ.
Mrs. Holloway departed this life on September 15, 2008 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 12 days. She is survived by two sons: Daniel Holloway of Corinth, Mississippi, and Paul Holloway of Savannah; one brother: Robert Harmon Gibson of Union City, Tennessee; and three grandchildren: Caleb Holloway of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Savannah Hamilton of Anchorage, Alaska, and Benjamin Holloway of Corinth.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holloway was preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas Marion Gibson and James Columbus Gibson; and by one sister: Arlie Roberts.
